Complete Decongestive Therapy (CDT)
Complete Decongestive Therapy (CDT)
Complete Decongestive Therapy (CDT) is a comprehensive, non-surgical approach used to manage lymphedema and reduce swelling. It helps improve lymphatic drainage, control fluid buildup and maintain the results over time.
CDT typically includes:
• Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD):
A gentle, specialised technique designed to encourage the movement of lymph fluid through the lymphatic system. It can help reduce swelling and improve over stiffness, bring comfort and increase mobility.
• Compression Therapy:
Compression bandaging or garments help prevent fluid from building up in the affected area. They are an important part of controlling swelling and customising treatment and ensuring encouraging results.
• Exercise & Movement
Gentle, prescribed exercises help support lymphatic circulation and maintain flexibility and strength. Regular movement can also help improve overall mobility and function.
Skin Care :
Keeping the skin clean, moisturised and protected helps reduce the risk of cuts, cracks and infections. Good foot, nail and skin care is especially important in lymphedema.
• Self-care Education: Patients are guided on compression, exercise, skin care and other daily practices to manage lymphedema. Learning these habits helps support long-term swelling control and overall well-being.
